What Symptoms Should I Look For?

Treating TMJ is an area of expertise for Retro Dental Group, so look for these symptoms

If you experience jaw pain, jaw popping or jaw clicking, chances are you probably have a TMJ disorder. One of the ways you can tell is by comfortably opening and closing your mouth in front of a mirror in the normal manner. Pay attention to the way it moves. If your jaw does not move in a smooth line, then you might have TMJ. Some of the symptoms of TMJ/TMD include frequent headaches or migraines. Ringing in the ears and earaches are also associated with the TMJ disorder. Neck pain is another symptom that often goes unnoticed. If your jaw gets locked or stuck, and you have difficulty chewing, you should come and visit us for an examination. Although TMJ is more common in females, anyone can have it. If it goes on for a while without being treated, it becomes harder to deal with or correct. If you have any questions about jaw pain in Broomfield, or would like to schedule an appointment for treating TMJ with Retro Dental Group, call us at (720) 307-4764 anytime day or night.

Jaw pain is easy to care for and here are some at home tips from our dental professionals

"If you can’t get in to see me right away, and would like to ease your pain, here are some tips you can use at home. Ice packs and over the counter pain medication can be a lot of help when dealing with this disorder. Also, try avoiding foods that require more strength to chew, or crunching on ice, hard candy and nuts. Chewing gum should also be avoided. Heating pads also help ease the pain around the jaw area. If you have problems clenching your jaw, stick your tongue between your teeth and bite down gently to give yourself a few moments of relief. If your TMJ is stress related, then you will have no problem fixing it. We will provide you with the necessary equipment to use at night to relax your jaw muscles. If you have any questions about treating TMJ or jaw pain, please give me a call. I would be more than happy to answer all of your questions."
